Centres on Euro-Atlantic Integration in the regions of Ukraine
Model of the Centres on Euro-Atlantic Integration worked out by the Institute of Society Transformation
Since 2000, Institute of Society Transformation (IST) has been carrying out the complex analysis of questions concerning the Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine. One of the results of scrupulous work is development of theoretical model and practical mechanism of creation and activity of the regional Centres on Euro-Atlantic Integration (CEAI), that have informational-educational character of activity and vertical-horizontal structure. The model was developed on the bases of experience of the states – NATO members of last two waves of expansion and there are no analogues in Ukrainian practice.
In 2006 Institute of Society Transformation has begun practical realization of the project on the Centres on Euro-Atlantic Integration in the regions of Ukraine formation. One of the first started their work the Mykolayiv Educational-Scientific Centre of European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine (October, 2006). In 2008 Institute of Society Transformation was ready for mass creation of regional CEAI. The idea of creation of the Centres on Euro-Atlantic Integration in regions of Ukraine was maintained by the Ministry of Foreign Affaires of Ukraine, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the National Centre for Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine, NATO Information and Documentation Centre in Ukraine, number of the Embassies of the states – NATO members.
Aim of Centre activities:
To create opportunities for regional public to receive objective, unbiased information about the bases of Euro-Atlantic and European model of development; advantages of Ukraine integration to North-Atlantic Alliance.
To provide conditions for realization of open discussions at different levels (comprehensive schools, high educational establishments, enterprises, public organizations) concerning the reasons of creation and activity of NATO, forms and directions of its cooperation with Ukraine.
To contribute to formation of conscious worldview position among intelligence, businessmen, public, student's youth, scholars concerning a rate of Ukraine integration to NATO.
To create branches of the regional Centres on Euro-Atlantic Integration in all districts and cities of each region and to unit them in integrated, coordinated and constantly working system of informing of a regional public about advantages of Euro-Atlantic integration and inaccuracy of stereotypes concerning NATO activity.
Providing information to those interested in NATO and Euro-Atlantic integration;
Organizing seminars, aimed at training teachers or public speakers on Euro-Atlantic integration issues;
Organizing academic workshops;
Cooperation with other Euro-Atlantic information centres in Ukraine.
Monitoring regional media, preparing regular review on NATO related publications, providing feedback or response, where relevant.
Liaising with and providing assistance to activities on Euro-Atlantic integration issues in the region, organized by NATO Information and Documentation Office, Ukrainian MFA and other concerned government bodies, NGOs, the Embassies of foreign countries in Kyiv.
